2011 NFL Free Agents: 49ers OLB Travis LaBoy Lost In The Shuffle?

When news starts crackling about big name free agents, sometimes the smaller fish can get lost in the shuffle. One such player this week is outside linebacker Travis LaBoy. To be perfectly honest, amidst all the hubbub the past few days I too had forgotten about the Bay Area native. However, someone out there remembered and tweeted a question to Maiocco and Barrows about it.

At this point, Barrows indicated LaBoy is looking for a bigger role with the team while Maiocco indicated LaBoy has heard from the 49ers and the Chargers. While the 49ers are figuring out their business with Nate Clements and Nnamdo Asomugha, the outside linebackers may need to see LaBoy back for another year. He put together solid numbers in limited snaps, finishing with five sacks. Pro Football Focus' stats indicate he played 329 snaps, which was half of what Manny Lawson and Parys Haralson saw.

The question is if he's looking to become more of an every-down linebacker, should the 49ers bring him back as such? Or should the 49ers let him walk if he wants to be more than a situational pass rusher?
