49ers Training Camp 2011: Curtis Holcomb Ruptures Achilles, Done For Season

The 49ers 2011 season took yet another hit as seventh round pick Curtis Holcomb ruptured his Achilles Tendon. Barrows tweeted he'll undergo surgery and is likely done for the season. Unfortunately I think likely is probably not worth including in the tweet. A ruptured Achilles is an absolutely brutal injury and Holcomb faces a long recovery.

The 49ers have been battling to figure out their cornerback issues and at the very least this hurts their depth. Given that he's a seventh round pick I'm not prepared to jump off the ledge, but it certainly doesn't help to lose Holcomb. He would have had a chance to compete with all the other young corners and could have made an impact. Now, he loses his first year and will go through a tough rehab process. We certainly wish him the best of luck in his recovery.

In the meantime, the 49ers will enter free agency with a further need for cornerbacks. They needed a top corner before, but now some additional depth is necessary for the roster.
