NN NFL Tournament of Badness: Madden NFL's Exclusive License and Cortland Finnegan

Yesterday's matchup was a toss-up in my mind, and with about six hours left at the time of writing this, it looks as though we've got an "upset" on our hands. It's an upset by seeding definition alone; after all, how could you have an upset in a toss-up? Today, we've got two lower seeds that should be a dogfight, in my opinion. One of them is actually pretty controversial, being that it upset the good folks over at Music City Miracles. I hope they do read my description this time around and understand where I'm coming from ... at the very least, it's in your hands folks, not mine. They, of course, are free to vote as they choose.

Anyway, today we've got "NFL's Exclusive License With EA" up against "Cortland Finnegan Not Getting Beaten Up More Often". To preface the latter once more, note that I don't want the guy to get injured or anything of that nature, and I feel like most of you feel the same way. Also, anybody who votes for the former is a childish, unmarried simpleton, according to ... a very mature, married scholar.

So make the jump to read the descriptions of the participants for today, read full results from the opening round of the bracket, view the entire bracket. But first: remember, we are voting on what we believe to be the absolute worst thing of the two. If you're voting in a worst food contest, and you like pizza more than hamburgers, you would then vote for hamburgers in that matchup. Get it? Got it? Good. Make the jump.

(10) NFL's Exclusive License With EA

Every time somebody brings up the Madden NFL series, somebody else will bring up NFL 2K5. That's the last game to use current (at the time) licensed players in the NFL that wasn't made by EA Sports. The NFL and EA inked an exclusivity contract that extends for like 4000 years or something like that. Now, let me make one thing really clear: NFL 2K5 was pretty darn good. Very good, in fact ... but over the years, it has gotten better and better as more people talk it up. Its legend has increased to near-mythical status and I warn you: don't get caught up in it too. The game is most definitely overrated, but there's no denying that it beat the pants off of the current Madden game at the time, and there's absolutely no denying that it would be better if both games could release, so we could pick the one we want. The Madden series has gotten stale and lazy, while the rest of EA's sports games continue to reach new heights and consistently set new standards. Why? No competition. It sucks. Bad.

(15) Cortland Finnegan Not Getting Beaten Up More Often

Now, I suppose I made a bit of an oversight the last time I explained this one. As it happens, quite a few Tennessee Titans fans got quite a bit upset when it comes to this. They insist that he's a great teammate and is active in the community ... that's all well and fine, that's also something I never disputed. I am exposed to Finnegan a lot less than they are, but they don't get is that I am exposed to what Finnegan wants me to be exposed to. I see him out there every couple of weeks being completely ridiculous and more than a little annoying, so when I see Andre Johnson lay the smackdown on him, I'm going to enjoy every bit of it (even if it wasn't that much of a beatdown at all). So yeah, him not getting beaten up more often for his antics on the field is a pretty awful thing about the National Football League, to be quite honest.
