Super Bowl Under The Star: 49ers Screening Super Bowl XVI

New, comments

If you live in the Bay Area and have some free time on Saturday July 23, the San Francisco 49ers will be screening Super Bowl XVI at their practice facility in Santa Clara. The screening will be free and will take place on the practice field. Tickets can be obtained for free from Ticketmaster (possibly service charges, but I doubt it) and parking will be free adjacent to the facility. The event will include meet and greets with 49ers alumni, the Gold Rush cheerleaders and Sourdough Sam.

2011 marks the 30th anniversary of that first Super Bowl win and the 49ers are looking for ways to commemorate the huge victory. The 1981 Super Bowl is easily overlooked by many fans since a sizable chunk of the fan base was either not born or was too young to remember (such as myself). Howtheyscored put together a rundown of the 1981 season if you want to take a look back. The 49ers won the Super Bowl that year 26-21 over the Cincinnati Bengals in a rather tight contest. While it wasn't quite as exciting an ending as the second Super Bowl victory over the Bengals, it was an interesting game nonetheless.
