Well, apparently the report of a possible fourth or third round pick was oh so wrong. According to Geoff Hobson at Bengals.com, the 49ers received a seventh round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft in exchange for Taylor Mays. Aside from cutting Mays, I've got to think that's about as deep as you're gonna get. Last round, two drafts from now.
The blame can go all around for the Taylor Mays debacle. It's pretty evident from this trade that nobody really wanted to invest a draft pick in acquiring Mays. For the Bengals, they get a guy under some level of salary control who they might not have much of a shot at in free agency. At this point, it's time to move onward and upward as the Taylor Mays era is officially over.
Anybody want to put together a draft projection for the late rounds in two years? Somebody get Mel Kiper on the phone!
