The San Francisco 49ers wrap up their 2011 preseason schedule with what has become a fairly regular finale matchup against the San Diego Chargers. It's hard to really tell what the plan is for this game from the 49ers perspective. We saw their "game plan" last week and whatever answers Harbaugh was looking for, I hope he got them.

I'd suspect Alex Smith will play most if not all of the first half. Normally the starters cut back considerably in the preseason finale, but Coach Harbaugh hasn't exactly treated this like a normal preseason. Given the overall lack of offensive snaps last weekend thanks to long Texans drives, the first string offense will be looking for a bit more playing time.

I realize strong preseason performances have limited importance in the grand scheme of things, but at this point I'd just like to see some positives across the board. I don't need a preseason win. Just give me something that shows even the 49ers base formations can execute in some manner. I don't ask for much in life.

GO NINERS!
