49ers vs. Bengals Pre-Game: Dashon Goldson Starting At Free Safety

In somewhat surprising news, Dashon Goldson will start at free safety against the Cincinnati Bengals. Madieu Williams started the first two week while Goldson was recovering from injury, but it looks like Goldson is officially good to go. He was expected to get playing time but I was anticipating more of Williams starting and Goldson getting slotted in.

Given the struggles of the secondary, it's not exactly shocking that Goldson gets the start to mix things up. No word on whether Tarell Brown or Shawntae Spencer is starting, but I'd imagine Brown gets another start for now.

In the meantime, the inactive lists were released. There's nothing particularly shocking in the inactive list with Braylon Edwards and Moran Norris both inactive. The rest of the list remains the same as normal. I'm curious if Ian Williams or Demarcus Dobbs will work their way into the active roster at any point this season. My guess is no barring significant injuries, but you never know. One upside to keeping them inactive is they go through an exclusive rights free agency period at the end of their rookie contracts much like Alex Boone did this past year.
