And just like that, the San Francisco 49ers are in sole possession of first place in the NFC West. There is a whole lot of football left to be played, but after seven games, the 49ers are on top of the division. The Cardinals and Rams were both unable to take advantage of opportunities to make statements and lost to the Vikings and Packers, respectively. The 49ers now hold a one-game lead over Arizona and Seattle, and two games over the Rams.
The rest of the NFC is crazy, particularly the NFC East. The Redskins and Giants just wrapped up a crazy fourth quarter shootout that saw the Giants escape with a 27-23 win. RGIII appeared to get the Redskins an upset win, but Eli Manning and Victor Cruz struck late to get the big divisional win.
The afternoon schedule is limited, with only two games starting at 1:25pm PT. The Oakland Raiders host the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New England Patriots host the New York Jets. All AFC action does not impact the 49ers, but the 49ers do travel to face the Patriots later this year, so that is one reason to check this one out.
