49ers return to practice: Frank Gore, Mario Manningham attend beginning of session

We break down the 49ers practice participation information as they prepare for Week 8 Monday Night Football against the Cardinals.

The 49ers returned Monday for a day of practice before the players get Tuesday and Wednesday off. The beat writers tweeted out various details surrounding who was in attendance at practice. Cam Inman said:

The most interesting mention was Kyle Williams. I don't recall seeing him get hurt against the Seahawks, and I don't remember any mention after the fact. Maybe I overlooked something? If you recall any previous mention of a Kyle Williams injury, drop a line in the comments.

There is no specific word on Joe Staley at this point. He bounced back quickly from a concussion in Week 6 to play on a short week in Week 7. There has been no indication one way or the other on the status of Joe Staley, so that's one where we'll have to wait and see what reports bring.

Mario Manningham injured his shoulder against the Giants and missed TNF against the Seahawks. Last week, he said he would be good to go for Monday Night Football. I don't know if we'll get an official practice participation report from today's session, but this would indicate no worse than "limited participation." If there is no report Monday, we'll get an official report on Thursday.

There is some discussion about Frank Gore, and what to do about his bruised ribs, but it seems like he is working his way back from them. If he is at all limited we might finally get a look at Brandon Jacobs in regular season action, but it's hard to tell right now. The Cardinals have been a solid defense in both the run and the pass, so we'll see if the 49ers look for another round of pounding the rock. I'd much prefer they stick with that bread and butter part of their offense, as I think many of us would.
