College football is back and reaching a fevered pitch. There are still quite a few big matchups left and Week 9 brings quite a few of them. There is a chance for some shake-up as the BCS standings saw only slight movement last week. South Carolina dropped out of the top 10 and Kansas State leapt over Oregon to No. 3.
This week, there is likely to be a fair amount of shake-up. No. 1 Alabama hosts No. 11 Mississippi State, No. 2 Florida travels to No. 10 Georgia, No. 3 Kansas State hosts No. 10 Texas Tech and No. 5 Notre Dame travels to No. 8 Oklahoma. The Oregon Ducks are sitting at No. 4 right now, but barring a loss ahead of them, a win over 1-6 Colorado is unlikely to move them up. The Ducks do get some opportunities to improve their strength of schedule the rest of the way, facing ranked USC, Stanford and Oregon State teams. If they can win out, the loser of a potential Florida-Alabama SEC title game could drop behind them, leaving Kansas State ahead of them depending on how the Wildcats finish out. Let the BCS mayhem ensue!
Chris Steuber tweeted out some of his information regarding scouts this week. According to Steuber, 49ers scouts are expected to be in attendance at Pitt-Temple, USC-Arizona and NC State-North Carolina. I still find myself bouncing around a variety of possibilities for the 49ers draft needs, but we can start to move some positions down the list.
Offensive line has moved pretty far down given the emergence of the young talent. Aside from Jonathan Goodwin, the rest of the offensive line is in position for a solid future. The 49ers could use Daniel Kilgore as their center of the future, or develop him into a sort of swing interior role. And of course there is still Joe Looney spending the season inactive and learning. The depth is pretty impressive along the offensive line.
