The 49ers put together their second straight butt-whupping this past Sunday as they defeated the Buffalo Bills 45-3. The second straight statement win has continued to "rehab" their image following the loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The Jets and Bills are not particularly good teams, but thorough wins are thorough wins. The 49ers handled their business.
Prior to this week, the 49ers ranked either No. 3 or No. 4 across the board, alternating spots with the Ravens in most polls, and the Arizona Cardinals in another. Following Week 5 results, the 49ers currently sit No. 3 across the board. In an interesting twist, the 49ers got one first place vote in the NFL.com poll. Gregg Rosenthal voted the 49ers No. 1.
As we look ahead to Week 6, these top three teams are all at home. The 49ers host the Giants, the Falcons host the Raiders and the Texans host the Packers. The 49ers are a touchdown favorite, the Falcons are a nine-point favorite and the Texans are a 4.5 point favorite. Given how the Packers are playing I would think the Texans should be able to make a statement in that game, but who knows which Packers team will show up.
