49ers snap count vs. St. Louis Rams

We break down the 49ers snap count for their Week 10 matchup against the St. Louis Rams.

Thearon W. Henderson

The 49ers marathon game with the St. Louis Rams ended up with some pretty sizable numbers in the snap count. The special teams had a season high 33 snaps and the defense also had a season high of 83 plays. This is no surprise, but still crazy to consider the sheer volume involved.

The team went with a bit more balanced defense this week, going back and forth quite a bit between the base defense and extra defensive backs. In previous weeks there has been some discussion about Ricky Jean Francois eventually moving past Isaac Sopoaga on the depth chart, but Ice was back taking the big portion of snaps at nose tackle.

Chris Culliver ended up getting in on 54% of the snaps, while Tarell Brown and Carlos Rogers each had 100% of the snaps. Rogers seems to be struggling at times out there and it leaves me wondering if we'll start to see Culliver rotated in further and further. I'm not holding my breath to see that anytime soon, but it is something to pay attention to as the season wears on.

The 49ers went with fewer of the third tight end and extra offensive lineman heavy formations. Tight end Garrett Celek did not make an appearance on offense. Leonard Davis had one offensive snap, but it was only to replace Mike Iupati when the left guard got hurt on one play.
