Week 12 of the college football season is officially at hand, which means the road to the BCS gets a little more narrow. Most teams are facing fairly weak opponents in Week 12, but we do have a few intriguing matchups, with the Pac-12 not taking the weekend off from legitimate competition. The two biggest ranked matchups feature No. 2 Oregon hosting No. 13 Stanford, and No. 17 UCLA hosting No. 18 USC. I know we've got a lot of Pac-12 fans here, so it's nice that these are the biggest games of the college football week.
The rest of the top teams are facing relatively weak opposition. No. 1 Kansas State travels to Baylor, No. 3 Notre Dame hosts Wake Forest, No. 4 Alabama hosts Western Carolina, No. 5 Georgia hosts Georgia Southern and No. 6 Florida hosts Jacksonville State. Upsets do happen in college football, but we can mark down a few wins from this group.
49ers scouts will be out and about. Including this week, there are only three weeks remaining of full college action. After that, we have conference championship games, Army-Navy and then bowl season. There are plenty of scouting opportunities in that mix, but time is running out for scouting and cross-checking players among the crappier schools.
This week, 49ers scouts are reportedly at Notre Dame-Wake Forest, Oklahoma-West Virginia and Arkansas-Mississippi State. I have thought about starting a mock draft database, as we have done in the past, but I'm wondering if there is enough value in it since the 49ers could be picking from a broad range of positions at this point. Is it worth it just for the discussion purposes of predictions at this point?
