The 49ers and Saints released their inactive lists and Alex Smith is active, having cleared his final concussion test. The 49ers apparently will not be providing official info on the starting quarterback, but the entire free world knows Kaepernick is getting the start. Of course, if the Saints spent even a few minutes preparing for Alex Smith, I suppose it's worth it.
The big surprise is that Brandon Jacobs is active. This gives the 49ers four running backs active with Jacobs joining Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon. Jacobs was active for one game earlier this season, but did not get a touch. We'll see if that changes in today's game.
The Saints inactives include Darren Sproles being active and Zach Strief listed as inactive. Many thought Sproles would be active last week, but he was a late scratch. He does a lot of work in the passing game out of the backfield, while also operating as the Saints primary kick and punt returner. Strief is the starting right tackle, and with backup Charles Brown sidelined as well, Aldon Smith and Justin Smith might just be licking their chops.
49ers: Scott Tolzien, A.J. Jenkins, LaMichael James, Joe Looney, Trenton Robinson, Will Tukuafu Ian Williams
Saints: OT Zach Strief, Scott Shanle, Junior Galette, Corey White, Charles Brown, Elbert Mack, Tyrunn Walker
