In late September, the Pro Football Hall of Fame released a list of 127 nominees for the 2013 class. Today, that list was narrowed down to 27 as the Hall announced their list of semifinalists. The 49ers are well represented on this list with some long-time icons, and others who spent more limited time with the franchise. The group includes:
Larry Allen, G/T - 1994-2005 Dallas Cowboys, 2006-07 San Francisco 49ers
Roger Craig, RB - 1983-1990 San Francisco 49ers, 1991 Los Angeles Raiders, 1992-93 Minnesota Vikings
Edward DeBartolo, Jr., Owner - 1977-2000 San Francisco 49ers
Kevin Greene, LB/DE - 1985-1992 Los Angeles Rams, 1993-95 Pittsburgh Steelers, 1996, 1998-99 Carolina Panthers, 1997 San Francisco 49ers
Charles Haley, DE/LB - 1986-1991, 1999 San Francisco 49ers, 1992-96 Dallas Cowboys
The next step will be to cut down to the 15 finalists in January. On Super Bowl weekend, there are then two votes. The first vote cuts down to ten and then the second vote cuts down to the five-person induction class.
Last year, Roger Craig made it to the semifinalist stage, Eddie DeBartolo made it to the 15-person finalist group and Charles Haley made it to the cut down to ten. Chris Doleman was the only player with 49ers ties to earn a spot in the Hall of Fame.
Fooch's Note: Totally overlooked that Bryant Young did not make the cut to semifinalist.
