SNF Open Thread: 49ers gaining some ground on bye week

We break down the day that was, looking at the Sunday Night Football matchup and provide an open thread for discussion

Rich Schultz

Week 9 is quickly coming to a close, with Sunday Night Football hosting the penultimate game of the week. Tonight's matchup features the undefeated Atlanta Falcons hosting the 3-4 Dallas Cowboys. If the Cowboys can swing the huge upset, they have a chance to cut into the Giants lead following the Giants loss to the Steelers. I'm not holding my breath for a Cowboys win, but the opportunity presents itself.

It has been a fairly solid day for the 49ers. The Arizona Cardinals lost in Green Bay, dropping them to 2 1/2 games back of San Francisco. The Seahawks managed to win, so they sit 1 1/2 games and host the New York Jets next week before their Week 11 bye. The 49ers and Seahawks don't meet up again until Week 15, but that could be a pretty big matchup if the Seahawks can hang close.

The 49ers got a nice little benefit on Sunday as the Pittsburgh Steelers knocked off the New York Giants. The Giants hold the tiebreaker against the 49ers, and this loss drops them a game back of San Francisco. This moves the 49ers up to the third seed for now. There is a long ways to go in the season, but every week is important.
