49ers re-sign Eric Bakhtiari, according to report

We break down the news that the 49ers are reportedly going to re-sign linebacker Eric Bakhtiari

Ed Szczepanski-US PRESSWIRE

Kyle Bonagura of CBS Sports is reporting that the 49ers will sign former outside linebacker Eric Bakhtiari, adding him back to the 53-man roster. The 49ers have two open roster spots with the suspension of Brandon Jacobs and the move of Demarcus Dobbs to the injured reserve list.

Bakhtiari seemed to have a good shot at earning a roster spot out of training camp, but was a late cut. He was brought back September 19, when Clark Haggans was suspended, but was subsequently released on October 9 once Haggans was re-activated. Bakhtiari has bounced around the league, but it appears the Bay Area native is back on the roster.

Bakhtiari would fill a need on special teams, which opened up with the loss of Dobbs. That leaves one roster spot to be filled. The team brought in Matt McCoy for a physical, but he reportedly failed that. Some folks were wondering if the 49ers would bring back Rock Cartwright, but Matt Barrows has indicated that is not going to happen at this point.
