49ers vs. Seahawks spread: SF sits as 1-point favorite

We break down the opening line for the 49ers-Seahawks Sunday Night Football matchup

Kirby Lee-US PRESSWIRE

A couple days after pulling the betting upset in Foxborough, the San Francisco 49ers head up to the CLink as a slim favorite over the Seattle Seahawks. The line currently sits at 49ers -1. The line initially opened with some sites installing the game as a pick 'em, while others had the Seahawks as a one point favorite.

The Seahawks are entering this game on a very solid hot streak, having beaten the Bears in overtime in Chicago, and then beating the Cardinals and Bills by a combined score of 108-17. The Cardinals and Bills are not any good, but I think they deserve credit for that kind of domination, much like the 49ers deserved it for their back-to-back destruction of the Jets and Bills by a combined score of 79-3.

The 49ers, of course, are coming off their own big win over the Patriots. I would hope there is no concern of overconfidence, given the fact that the team blew a big lead in the win. I would also suggest that heading up to Seattle for a pretty big divisional matchup should keep the team level-headed. I don't know what this all means for a potential emotional let-down against the Arizona Cardinals in two weeks, but for now I am not particularly concerned about that.

The over/under on this game is 39, which is not surprising. These are two very solid defenses, facing off in cold, wintery conditions. The 49ers obviously overcame that on Sunday against the Patriots, but the Seahawks bring a much better defense to the table. It will be interesting to see how these two defenses handle two very mobile quarterbacks, and a pair of powerful rushing attacks.
