They announced the Pro Bowl selections today and many 49ers received for due accolades. There's all the usual faces and a few surprises, as well. The entire offensive line was selected to the Pro Bowl or named alternates. I wonder if that's happened before to an O-line? All five starters. Anyone?
There's hopefully the last of the articles on the Seattle game. Mine is one of them, and it was not fun to write. We've got the build-up for Week 17 vs the Cardinals. And there's a lot of discussion about the wide receiver position. I have a feeling that last topic is going to last through into the playoffs.
There is a ton of links, so I'm jumping straight in.
Week 16: Seattle 42, 49ers 13
My piece about the 49ers' loss to Seattle. I tried to find a silver lining and couldn't. There really wasn't much good to take away from. The only good from last weekend was Minnesota's win over Houston. That renders their Week 17 matchup with Green Bay important and the Packers could actually lose. Then we can sneak into the No. 2 seed and the first-round bye that our overall health requires us to secure. | Niners dominated in every aspect of game in Seattle (Malone)
You'd think the Seahawks discovered the 49ers' fatal flaw, achilles heel if you will, the way Chris Burke wrote this article. Oh, wait....did they? | Break it down: Russell Wilson's offense tears apart San Francisco (SI.com)

Week 17: 49ers at Cardinals
Don't panic! There's still a good chance that we get the No. 2 seed. | 49ers fight for playoff positioning against Cardinals (Bay Area SB Nation)
This is all you really need to know about the game in Week 17 against the Arizona Cardinals. Hands up if you knew who this guy was before last weekend. | Brian Hoyer will start for Cardinals (Pro Football Talk)
I thought that Vernon Davis would be back this weekend. The hit he took was bone-rattling, but it didn't appear as though Kam Chancellor, nor the ground, made contact with Davis' noggin. Justin Smith's availability is a worry, though, and there's really no telling when he'll be available. The way the defense played in his absence was less than inspiring. | Practice report: Vernon Davis makes appearance, Justin Smith doesn't (Barrows)

Roster News
We know A.J. Jenkins needs to step it up, but one of the practice squad receivers is expected to take a step up to the 55-man roster. Harbaugh insinuated that Ricardo Lockette and Chad Hall will be in competition this week to see who that is. | Practice-squad receiver may move on up (Branch)

I didn't quite know where to include this one. It's a ton of GIFs of the best plays of the year! It's a Christmas gift from the good people at BASG. | A late red and gold Christmas gif.t from BASG (BASG)
We still have to wait and see what happens with Alex Smith. What could we realistically trade him for? Where would he go? He deserves to start in this league, and where he ends up will be one of the more interesting bits of intrigue during the offseason. | Destined for the desert?
