49ers inactives: Vernon Davis active, Justin Smith inactive

We break down the 49ers inactive report, which does not include tight end Vernon Davis.

The 49ers released their inactive report for Week 17, and Vernon Davis is active, while Justin Smith is inactive. Smith was just about a lock to be inactive, as he is working to get ready for the 49ers first playoff game. On Friday, Coach Harbaugh indicated Vernon Davis was on track in his rehab from his Week 16 concussion, but Davis seemed to be not quite as positive. Given his active status, it sounds like the weekend went well for Davis and he will be out there.

If this were most any other type of injury, I could see the 49ers limiting Davis' snaps. However, with a concussion, it would seem like Davis is either good to go or is not. If he is active, it would seem like he would be set to play his normal number of snaps. Assuming he is 100%, he will be the No. 1 tight end and Delanie Walker will be the No. 2 tight end. If the 49ers grab a big lead on Arizona, it will be interesting to see if Garrett Celek gets some extra snaps.

Justin Smith will get another week to rest and try to get ready for the 49ers first playoff game. We'll know by 4:30 p.m. PT whether or not the 49ers will get a bye, and thus more rest for Justin Smith. Go 49ers and Vikings!

For the Cardinals, Nate Potter is inactive, which means D'Anthony Batiste will get the start at left tackle in his place. We'll see what that can do for Aldon Smith in his pursuit of the single season sack record.

49ers inactives: DT Justin Smith, QB Scott Tolzien, G Joe Looney, S Trenton Robinson, RB Jewel Hampton, DT Will Tukuafu, LB Eric Bakhtiari

Cardinals inactives: WR LaRon Byrd, WR Early Doucet, QB John Skelton, G/C Mike Gibson, DE Ronald Talley, OT Nate Potter, FB Anthony Sherman
