49ers Offensive Line: Backup Center and Right Guard

Fooch's Note: The Matts tweeting that free agent OL Geoff Schwartz could be coming to town for a visit early next week. He played right guard and right tackle, so has some solid versatility.

The 49ers head into day three of free agency having lost right guard Adam Snyder. Although Snyder was not a great right guard, his versatility was huge for the team. He could play just about anywhere on the line, including acting as backup center. Jonathan Goodwin was generally reliable when it came to staying healthy, but having a veteran like Snyder available, was always a bit of a comfort.

As the 49ers move forward, their current backup center would be Chase Beeler or Daniel Kilgore, with Kilgore likely the starting right guard and Mike Person backing up him and left guard Mike Iupati. Beeler is a Stanford man and spent the 2011 season on the practice squad. Kilgore and Person were on the 53-man roster but spent virtually the entire season on the inactive list.

I remain convinced the 49ers would like to add a veteran guard but are hoping Daniel Kilgore can emerge in the preseason as "the guy" at right guard. Given the numbers, it is tough to figure whether Beeler would be able to do enough to crack any sort of numbers game with Mike Person and whatever other veteran guard was brought in.

How can the 49ers best handle the right guard/backup center questions at this point?
