Yes, Adam Schefter just tweeted that. And yes, I threw up a little in my mouth when I read it.
Now that Peyton Manning is off to join the Denver Broncos, John Elway is attempting to use his masterful car dealer skills to unload the always popular Tim Tebow model of quarterback on some unsuspecting team. This is a guy who really never bought into Tebow accept during the final few minutes of his crazy comebacks. I have to admit, I laughed a little when I read rumors that he was trying to get a second round and fifth round pick for Tebow.
What does this mean for the 49ers? Well, it is possible they are actually inquiring about Tebow. I would argue the greater possibility is that this might be an attempt to gain back some leverage in the Alex Smith negotiations. It is a bit of a tense time right now, so I don't know if this is even realistic. If you want to bring back Alex Smith, and you were around for what happened over the last four or five days, do you really want to risk turning him off further by placing a rumor like this?
In reality, this is likely just idle speculation and one man throwing crap against the wall to see what sticks. But, it is still at least worth a mention, as horrifying as the possibility might seem.
