49ers Draft Picks 2012: San Francisco Selects Wake Forest G Joe Looney At No. 117 Overall

The San Francisco 49ers were very busy to start Saturday as they moved down twice and then moved back up to No. 117 in a deal with the Detroit Lions. With that pick, the 49ers drafted offensive guard Joe Looney out of Wake Forest. There was some question as to what the 49ers would do along the offensive line. Looney tore a ligament in his foot during the Senior Bowl, which likely hurt his draft stock a bit.

Here's a quick scouting report:

Positives: Relatively athletic offensive lineman with the versatility to be used in a number of blocking schemes ... Keeps his head on a swivel, shows good awareness and is patient. Stays square, keeping the defender in front of him, anchors in pass protection and seals defenders from the action. Immediately gets out to the second level ...

Negatives: Late setting his hands and does not correctly place them into defenders. Strong but not a dominant run blocker. Recent foot injury will set him back.

The 49ers took a little while to get picking on day three of the 2012 NFL Draft, but that does not mean the 49ers were not productive thus far. Last night the 49ers traded their third round pick to the Indianapolis Colts in a deal that netted the Colts fourth rounder this year and a fifth rounder next year.

The 49ers then got Saturday going by dealing that second pick of the fourth round once two more times. They moved down in a deal with the Dolphins from No. 2 to No. 8. They then dealt away No. 8 to the Panthers. In making those moves from the end of the third to now, the 49ers turned No. 92 this year into No. 180 and No. 196 this year (two 6th round picks) and 3rd, 5th and 6th round picks in 2013. Add in the Taylor Mays seventh round pick and the 49ers find themselves with two picks in four separate rounds. They used No. 196 and No. 125 to move up to No. 117
