The San Francisco 49ers continued adding competition to their offensive line battle as they selected offensive guard Jason Slowey with their sixth round pick. The team entered the draft with some possible short/long term question marks at right guard and long-term questions at the center position. Joe Looney in the fourth is a guy who will compete at right guard immediately. Slowey on the other hand, will get some competition there, but could also battle with Daniel Kilgore for long term playing time at center after Jonathan Goodwin's time in San Francisco comes to an end.
The folks at SI.com provided a scouting report on Slowey and view him as a guy with great awareness but issues with flexibility and getting too high in blocks. He has some fundamentals to work on and will get a lot of time with OL coaches Time Drevno and Mike Solari.
The 49ers have one pick remaining in the draft at No. 30 in the seventh round (237 overall).
