Dashon Goldson Franchise Tender: Keep Moving, Nothing To See Here

Although things have generally been pretty quiet in 49ers camp, we do have a bit of non-news, so to speak. Free safety Dashon Goldson has not yet reported to Santa Clara and is not particularly close to signing his franchise tender. There were some reports he might report this coming week, but that has turned out to not be the case for now.

While the team and Goldson could get something worked out, I'd be fairly surprised if anything happened before mid-July at the earliest. The two sides have until July 16 to work out a long-term contract. If they do not come to terms by July 16, Goldson has to sign the franchise tender at some point or hold out.

The 49ers last franchise player was nose tackle Aubrayo Franklin. He waited until the day of their preseason week three contest to sign his tender. He got off to a rocky start that season and while he did settle in, it seems like his career peaked the year before his franchise tender. Go figure.

At this point, I think Goldson reports in time for the start of camp. It's more of a gut feeling than anything else, but I would suspect he will almost assuredly be in before the start of the regular season. Whether he gets a long-term deal done, remains to be seen. I am not holding my breath, but maybe it will take up until the July 16 deadline to get something done.
