Golden Nuggets: Search for Backup Return Man, Jenkins Gets Physical

Another day, another abbreviated Nuggets. That's what we say here Down Under. No, seriously... it's getting a bit ridiculous. Here I am, bothering friends, while my internet is down again (yes, it was fixed and then crapped out), sitting in their easy chair as their baby gently wails.

So, I'll get straight to the links, whatever they may be.

Matt Maiocco has notes from the practice field, including who was truant. Alex Boone sliding in at RT to fill in for absent Anthony Davis,Colin Kaepernick is getting the 2nd team reps, and A.J. Jenkins getting physical are among the highlights. | Notes from practice. (Maiocco)

NFL.com has ranked the tight ends and Vernon Davis has come in third. That works for me. They say that he's there, despite having lesser numbers, because many personnel people they spoke to find him more explosive. They don't mention any intangibles, like run blocking. | Vernon Davis #3 TE. (NFL.com)

Maiocco has another article on why the 49ers should have had 500 more passing yards last year. It's in relation to the interminable Alex Smith v Cam Newton saga. | Why 49ers should have had 500 more passing yards. (Maiocco)

The 49ers will continue their search for a backup return man. Coach Harbaugh has indicated that he would be happy to have Kyle Williams do it and Ted Ginn Jr. is hurt. I sure would be nervous. LaMichael James and Perrish Cox are other possibilities. | Search for backup return man. (Barrows)

David Akers tweeted that the team wants what the Giants have. We all know what that is and what that means. Cam Inman writes a piece asking how much do we really want to go down the same path. | Be like the Giants. At what cost? (Inman)

And again, sorry, but this had to get rushed. You'll notice that it got more and more rushed as it progressed. That's what happens when you have to ride 30 minutes uphill in the snow to reach the internet. I'll be back tomorrow and will try to do a full one for you guys.
