Brian Banks In Town For 49ers Workout

In case you missed the news last week, free agent linebacker Brian Banks is in Santa Clara today to try out for the San Francisco 49ers. He shot out this tweet last night when he got to town.

The workout was not set in stone, but it seems like he is good to go to show the 49ers what he can do. I'll be out for much of the day, so consider this an open thread for any updates on Banks' workout. The 49ers are conducting a rookie minicamp this week and Banks will work with that group the next few days.

Banks has already tried out for the Seahawks, Chargers and Chiefs. He got invited back for the Seahawks minicamp and took part in two days of that, operating as a middle linebacker in their 4-3 defense.

The 49ers inside linebacker position is about as secure as it can be right now. Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman are two of the best in the business at what they do. Larry Grant is no superstar but he showed last year that he can fill in quite ably if one of Willis or Bowman goes down.

He is likely no more than a practice squad candidate at this point, but it is still a crazy story to follow as he tries to reach his dream.
