I did not get anything posted on this last week, but much like in 2011, the San Francisco 49ers will use the proximity of DeBartolo hometown Youngstown, Ohio to deal with back-to-back road games in the eastern time zone. Last season the 49ers stayed over in Youngstown between their week three contest at the Cincinnati Bengals and their week four contest at the Philadelphia Eagles. This year, they will utilize the same process between their week three contest at the Minnesota Vikings and their week four contest at the New York Jets.

The 49ers got off to a slow start against the Eagles last season, but finished incredibly strong in securing the victory. I have no idea if the Youngstown stay made any sort of difference, but any psychological edge would be welcome. I bring this up now, in part because of an interesting article about the Baltimore Ravens. The article discusses how the Ravens are looking at various sleep studies to figure out if they should make adjustments to their practice schedule.

The Ravens are considering changing practice times, but also are considering moving their players' day off from Tuesday to Monday. For most teams, Tuesday is the players' day off, but our own 49ers actually use Monday as the day off. Part of it is speculated to be to elude media to a certain extent, but it could be a rest issue as well. Maybe 49ers Coach Harbaugh chatted with Ravens Coach Harbaugh about the benefits of the Monday off day.
