Brian Banks Departs With No Deal, Leaving 49ers With One Roster Spot Still Available

Earlier this week, free agent linebacker Brian Banks was in town to try out with the 49ers during their rookie minicamp. After three days of drills and workouts, Banks left town without a deal. He has now had some measure of tryouts with the 49ers, Seahawks, Chargers and Chiefs.

There was a quick rush of enthusiasm when Banks was first exonerated and began receiving calls from various teams. However, it's worth noting that he also hasn't played competitive football in a decade. He is back in Southern California continuing to work out and get into/stay in football shape. I think there is a decent chance he scores a training camp invite at some point, but it might take an injury or two to make that happen.

In the meantime, the 49ers still have one open roster spot before training camp. Most anybody added now is unlikely to make the roster and is likely a training camp body who would have to do some work just to earn a spot on the practice squad. I suppose it is possible the 49ers find something with a little more giddy-up to add to the roster, but it would surprise me to see anything resembling a notable transaction.

That being said, is there anybody you'd like to see the 49ers make a move on with this final roster spot?
