According to reports, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith was stabbed at a house party in Santa Clara, CA late last night. The Santa Clara County Sherriff's department confirmed multiple gunshots fired and two additional people wounded. The 49ers released a statement from General Manager Trent Baalke, acknowledging Smith was an incident but declined to elaborate on anything else at this time.
San Francisco 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke on Aldon Smith:
The San Francisco 49ers are aware that Aldon Smith incurred minor injuries during an incident last night. We are in contact with Aldon, and thankful that his injuries were not more serious and that he is recovering comfortably. The 49ers are also in communication with local authorities as they gather information regarding the incident, and will reserve further comment at this time.
This is Smith's second incident already this offseason. In January, the rookie sensation was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida on DUI charges. Granted, Smith did nothing to break the law but he has put himself is some questionable situations already this offseason. Coming into the league, Smith declared early and was one of the younger pups in the league, but these sort of occurrences cannot continue.
Trent Baalke and Jim Harbaugh will deal with this accordingly and likely quietly. Smith is a young man, and there is room to grow, so the best solution would be to deal with this now before these incidents begin to accumulate and start turning into suspensions.
