Rookies Joe Looney, Darius Fleming Expected To Begin Training Camp On PUP List

First off, apologies for only having one post up yesterday (plus the Nuggets). I moved from DC into Northern Virginia (Crystal City in Arlington), and once I wrapped that up, I decided to basically coast through the rest of Sunday. This was officially the last weekend of the NFL offseason and I decided to enjoy it a bit! 49ers rookies reported on Saturday and veterans report this Thursday. This coming weekend, real honest-to-goodness football news will be back at the forefront!

The 49ers will likely see a couple of players opening camp on the Physically Unable To Perform List. Darius Fleming (ACL) and Joe Looney (Lisfranc injury) will not be able to start practicing at the beginning of training camp. Fleming is likely out for the year with his ACL injury, while Looney is expected to be able to return to practice at some point in camp.

A player that is placed on the PUP list cannot practice, and if he remains on the PUP list at the start of the season he does not take up one of the 53 roster spots. The player must remain on the PUP list for six weeks. After that six weeks, there is a three-week window during which time the team can figure out whether or not to activate the player. If a player is not activated, he is IR'd for the rest of the year.
