Texans Coverage: Battle Red Blog
Welcome back for our second game thread of the 2012 season. The 49ers square off against the Houston Texans in week two of the preseason. The two teams will likely send their starters out into the second quarter, although each team has their own specific plans, so don't hold me to "into the second quarter".
As long as the first units are in for each team, this could serve as a solid measuring stick for the 49ers on both sides of the ball. We can only take so much from what should be relatively vanilla game plans, and yet the Texans offense and defense present a strong challenge no matter what the game-planning. Matt Schaub is back from a Lis franc injury and has Arian Foster and potentially Andre Johnson for at least a small portion of the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Texans lost Mario Williams in free agency, but they did some good work without him when he tore his pectoral muscle last season. Losing that kind of talent is never a good thing, but the Texans should be able to continue on without him. They will present a solid challenge to the 49ers developing offense.
