49ers Injury News: Michael Crabtree, Justin Smith Sit Out Practice

Earlier this morning, 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree reportedly took part in the team's walk-through practice, leading to some speculation as to whether he would practice this afternoon. According to Matt Maiocco, Crabtree and defensive lineman Justin Smith are sidelined for the session. Crabtree is dealing with his calf strain, while Justin Smith reportedly had a wrap around his knee.

There is no word at this point on Mario Manningham or Curtis Holcomb, who have both been sidelined to some extent in recent days. Manningham has gotten some work in, but has not been taking part in all aspects of practice. It looks like Manningham got some work in yesterday in 11-on-11 drills, but it sounds like he has not been participating quite as frequently as other receivers.

The "upside" to this (if you want to look the positive) is that guys like Nathan Palmer, Chris Owusu and Brian Tyms are getting extra snaps they might not otherwise get if everybody was healthy. Ideally we'll see the entire receiver corps healthy in time for the first preseason game next Friday (a week from tomorrow), but if not, guys like Palmer, Owusu and Tyms will get that many more chances to shine.
