49ers Vs. Broncos: Easy On The Hyperbole

The first quarter of 49ers vs. Broncos is a wrap, and this game has been a whole lot of ugly, and a couple things of beauty. The 49ers offense and defense got off to a horrible start and fell behind 17-0 with two minutes left in the quarter. Thankfully, Alex Smith and Vernon Davis cleaned it up a bit with an easy 44-yard touchdown pass that looked strikingly familiar. I'm guessing the Broncos have not watched much 49ers playoff film.

The biggest downside thus far has been a virtually non-existent appearance by the 49ers defense. They have been playing off and aside from a big hit by Parys Haralson on Peyton Manning, there just hasn't been a whole lot of much happening. Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman are both sitting out, but the secondary is still playing less than stellar coverage.

It could mean one of a million things, but I'd like to think it's just a matter of the defense being overconfident at this point. Personally that would be preferable to me since a wake-up call is always welcome in the preseason. Maybe we'll find out in the coming quarter.
