Fooch's Update: Maiocco tweeted that the 49ers also released OL Jason Slowey and WR Joe Hastings and placed Darius Fleming and Jewel Hampton on reserve/football injury list, which means they are out through first six weeks, minimum. This buys time before placing them on injured reserve.
The 49ers have to cut down from 89 players to 75 players by 1:00 p.m. PT today, which means rumors and reports are starting to float. Kyle Bonagura of CBS Rapid Reports has some early reports that I thought I would include. We don't have confirmation on them, but most of the names make sense. Kyle reported the following as cut (Tyms seemed to tweet as much):

WR Ben Hannula
DL Matt Masifilo
DB Cory Nelms
CB Deante Purvis
TE Joe Sawyer
WR Brian Tyms
DL Patrick Butrym
Most of those are not surprising, but Brian Tyms did catch me a bit off guard. There were reports that he was impressing in camp, but it would seem like maybe the reports were a little bit overblown. The other possibility is the 49ers liked him, but not as much as Chris Owusu and Nathan Palmer, and they wanted to provide an opportunity for him to latch on by Thursday's preseason games. Who knows.
For now, the 49ers would appear to have six more roster moves remaining. They have not sent out a press release yet so nothing would seem to be officially official. We'll have something when that comes out.
