Golden Nuggets: Harbaugh Hits the Deck, Cox and Looney Shine

Wow...a week to go until preseason play begins. It just sneaks up on you, doesn't it. Training camp comes in, the fun begins, time starts flying and pretty soon the real games get under way. If training camp has shown us who's been working hard, the preseason will show us who makes the team. Are there any surprise roster inclusions or cuts...every year there seems to be a few. What's gonna happen at RB? Who's no 2 on the QB depth chart? What's the WR depth chart shaping up like? All will be answered in due time.

Cam Inman has his notes from day 8 of training camp. The highlight of the day, apparently, was when Coach Harbaugh took a pitch on a fake FG and promptly fell while trying to make a cut. So much for trying to illustrate a point. Everyone ROTFLMAO'd for a bit. Another concerning not says that Anthony Dixon was underwhelming. He's one of the players from last year's team that is very firmly seated on the bubble. | Inman's notes: Harbaugh's funny finale steals the show. (Inman)

Matt Barrows chimes in as well, noting that Joe Looney looked good on the goal line, despite having missed most of camp. Perrish Cox looked real good on a few key plays. | Great day for Cox, Looney. Harbaugh, eh - not so much. (Barrows)

Christian Gin gives us his notes from camp day 8. The most worrying of his notes is the fact that our defense dominated the offense on in the goal line and short yardage drill. Does that speak volumes about how good our defense is? Or are we in for more of the same problems from last year? | Gin's training camp notes: Day 8. (Gin)

Alex Smith looked good, especially in the 11-on-11 drills. The offense was able to string together a few sustained drives and he was accurate and made good, quick decisions. Colin Kapernick and Josh Johnson, on the other hand, were easily hurried and scrambled quite a bit. | 49ers notebook: Offense shows signs of improvement. (CBS Sports)
