NFL Power Rankings, Week 3: 49ers, Texans Dueling At The Top

Tuesday marks the start of the new work week for the 49ers as the players return to the facility after Monday's off day. The wrap of Monday Night Football means Tuesday is a day for review, which includes NFL power rankings. While NFL power rankings are mostly subjective, they provide some fun discussion fodder that allows us to focus on team specifics.

It should surprise nobody that Week 3 power rankings generally are featuring the 49ers at the top. The 49ers have rolled through their first two games, taking down the Packers and Lions and establishing themselves with the Falcons as two of the teams to beat in the NFC. After the jump I've posted a few of the power rankings.

What I found most interesting were some comments about the 49ers and Texans in CBS Sports power rankings. Pete Prisco described the 49ers as the NFL's best team, but the Texans as the most complete team. He likes what he's seen thus far, but he questions whether the 49ers can sustain their style of play. The Texans also received four first place votes out of the 13 ballots cast at NFL.com.

The Texans did blow out the Dolphins and Jaguars, but they are the Dolphins and Jaguars after all. The 49ers get their chance this week to take another step forward by handling their business on the road. The 49ers opened as touchdown favorites over the Vikings, and I think that is another sign of improvement. When you start getting big spreads on the road, people are giving you more respect. A strong performance will be another step in the team's renaissance.
