49ers Defeat Packers In Wild Opener Featuring Ref Controversy, Crazy Offense, Wild Defense

Getty Images

Acme Packing CompanyThe 49ers just beat the Green Bay Packers 30-22. Yes, you read that right!

I don't smoke, but I might need a cigarette after that game. I can't get into too much detail right now because I honestly still am trying to soak the whole thing in. That was about as wild a game as we'll see. Maybe not fourth quarter of 49ers-Saints crazy, but it was wild. Whether it was the unexpected offensive output, the final defensive stop or David Akers record-tying 63-yard field goal.

I have to be missing something that was noteworthy about this game, right? Oh yea, the refs. We'll have plenty more about the refs abysmal performance, but it is noteworthy enough to be discussed in any recap. The replacement refs really could not have been much worse for either team.

Whatever the case with the refs, the 49ers went into Green Bay and got a monster win. Any road win is big in the NFL, but beating a team that is a Super Bowl favorite is huge. If the 49ers are going to take "the next step", wins like this are a must. Green Bay had some opportunities to climb back into the game, but by the final whistle, all that matters is the 49ers getting the W!

After the jump, I have our new victory GIF. Thanks to manraj for posting it in the last thread. I think others have posted it as well, but either way, it's a winner.
