Golden Nuggets: Colin Kaepernick under the microscope

New, comments

Thursday, January 10, 2012 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of 49ers links from around the web.

Ezra Shaw

So much news, so little time. That's the slogan for today. I'm cracking straight into the links so I can get a bit of commentary in as well. Same as yesterday. There's some good articles on Colin Kaepernick from the national news media and I'll put them up here at the top. I tend to favor the local guys and the blogs, so I'll let ESPN and SI get a chance at their 15 minutes of fame. Underdogs.... <====sarcasm.

Mike Sando takes a look at Aaron Rodgers vs Colin Kaepernick from Weeks 11-17. They have the same won-loss record. Rodgers is more accurate, as you might guess. Kaepernick takes fewer sacks and runs for way more yardage. Who do you think has the higher ESPN total QBR rating? | Rodgers over Kaepernick, right? You decide (Sando)

Here are two opposing views on the Alex Smith for Colin Kaepernick switch, coming from the good folks at Sports Illiustrated. As a stats nerd, I usually love what Kerry Byrnes does, but he's against us on this I must hate him. First up is Michael Rosenberg and his pro-Kap piece. | Harbaugh smart to make Kaepernick his starter (

And now for Byrnes distorted, hateful piece. | Numbers show that Harbaugh will come to regret Kaepernick move (

Yet another piece demonstrating why Justin Smith is the most irreplaceable person on the planet. They hint that Aldon Smith had success lining up on the offense's right side and may try that some more. | Aldon Smith may be without Justin Smith again (for a much different reason) (BASG)

A preview video and some info on the game. In the video they note that Green Bay's week point is their run defense. What is it that we do well? | Packers look to avoid pre-snap confusion vs 49ers (CBS Sports)

A lot of people are questioning whether Colin Kaepernick will have the jitters in his first playoff game. The way he's performed in primetime, especially against the Patriots, make me think he'll be fine. | No big eyes for Colin Kaepernick (Inman)

You know who is smart? Bucky Brooks. Why, you ask? Smart enough to pick the 49ers to win. It seems that most experts are split down the middle. But, we're at home, and if it was in Green Bay, I might be inclined to think the Packers had the edge. Thank you replacement refs. | Divisional round: Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers (

Carlos Rogers has been down by most indicators, following a stellar 2011 campaign. I will forgive everything if he steps up big in the playoffs. Our entire secondary has been so good at tackling, and keeping receivers from gaining yards after the catch. If we can do it in this one, just like against the Saints, we'll win. | 49ers key matchup No. 3: Carlos Rogers vs Randall Cobb (Maiocco)

Who's going to carry us in the passing game? We know Michael Crabtree has been nothing short of amazing this season. He's going to be needed, especially if we get into a shootout (quite possible). | Crabtree driven by playoff disappointment (Maiocco)

I'd never even do this cause I'm sure it would be lumpy! | Packers talk: Don't sleep on the Packers defense (BASG)
