Super Bowl 2013: Chris Culliver comments and 49ers statement

We take a look at Chris Culliver's comments regarding gay football players.

For those that missed it (as I did for a while), Chris Culliver made some comments about to radio host Artie Lange, and he might a front-runner for dumbest comments of the week. He may not take home the MVP award on Sunday, but he's got this for now. Here is the clip:

The 49ers have issued a statement in response to Culliver's comments:

"The San Francisco 49ers reject the comments that were made yesterday, and have addressed the matter with Chris. There is no place for discrimination within our organization at any level. We have and always will proudly support the LGBT community."

Andrew Brandt best summed up what this statement means:

This can go in all sorts of directions, but one of the issues I have is his almost assured belief that there are no gay 49ers. It is entirely possible that is the case, but given the percentages, it would not surprise me if there were one or two (or more) gay players in the 49ers locker room.

I don't really know how this thread will go, but let's try and keep things on a relatively even keel. If it gets out of hand, I'll close the comments.
