And then there were eight. The NFL playoffs wrapped up the wild card round with the Seattle Seahawks defeating the Washington Redskins 24-14. The Seahawks win moves them into the divisional round where they will not travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons at the Georgia Dome next Sunday. That game will follow Saturday's 49ers-Packers matchup.
Heading into Sunday's Seahawks-Redskins game, I was a bit conflicted about the eventual result. On the one hand, seeing the Seahawks lose would have been pretty sweet. On the other hand, it would be so much sweeter to see the 49ers beat them in the NFC Championship Game. The Seahawks are more dangerous than the Redskins or Falcons, but it would be nice to end their season for them.
For now though, we get to sit and wait for six days to pass. Next weekend should hopefully provide slightly better football than we saw this weekend. Of course, if the 49ers win, the rest of the games could be ugly blowouts and it would be better football!
