The San Francisco 49ers were involved in a minor roster transaction on Friday. The NFL's official transaction report of the day states that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed offensive guard Patrick Omameh off the 49ers practice squad. The CBA dictates that a player signed from one practice squad to another active roster will receive at least three weeks salary at the league minimum, even if the player is terminated prior to earning that amount. Additionally, the player counts agains the 53-man roster for three games.
Speaking of the practice squad, recent 49ers addition McLeod Bethel-Thompson still has practice squad eligibility. The 49ers will need to clear roster space in a few weeks when the team starts activating their NFI and PUP list players. One has to imagine McBLT is one candidate for the practice squad.
In the meantime, the 49ers have one spot open on their practice squad. We'll see how they decide to fill it.
