49ers vs. Titans: Kenny Britt remains a bit of a mystery

While the San Francisco 49ers have been connected to various wide receiver trade rumors, the Tennessee Titans have reportedly been trying to unload wide receiver Kenny Britt. Head coach Mike Munchak has said the team has no plans trade Britt before the October 29 trade deadline, but I think we all know that just means they have not received the deal they want.

As the 49ers defense prepares for the Titans, Munchak indicated the team would try and get Britt 20 snaps this week. Britt opened the season with 44 snaps and then 62 snaps. He had 39 snaps in Week 3, sat out Week 4 with some injury issues and then had 36 snaps in Week 5. There were some criticisms of Britt after the game, and a week later, he played two snaps in Week 6 against the Seahawks.

The season has been abysmal for Britt, who was viewed as a guy with tremendous potential early in his career. And yet injuries and other issues have kept him from breaking out the last few years. And now, it seems like things are really falling apart for the impending free agent.

The Titans passing game has struggled to do much of anything the last two weeks with Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm. Check out Jimmy's article over at Music City Miracles in which he breaks down how Fitzpatrick and the Titans offense left points on the field against the Seahawks. The Titans will roll out Nate Washington, Damian Williams and Kendall Wright, all likely ahead of Britt on the depth chart at this point.

As long as Fitzpatrick is handling the snaps, the Titans are going to need to rely on their defense and their struggling run game. This tweet went out just a bit ago:

I suppose it is always possible Locker could be fine for Sunday, but odds still seem pretty high that he will sit out this week, with Tennessee hitting their bye next week. It would seem foolish to rush back Locker.
