The 49ers passing game has had its ups and downs, but the run game has built itself back into the machine we know it can be. The offensive line gets most of the respect in the run game, but the 49ers wide receivers and tight ends have always been a big part of the ground game.
When the 49ers acquired Anquan Boldin, one reason I was particularly excited was expecting to see him and Michael Crabtree laying waste to defenders as Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter, LaMichael James and Colin Kaepernick were hitting the edge on their runs. Unfortunately Crabtree was lost to injury, but while we wait for his return, Boldin continues to provide some serious blocks.
James put together a pair of GIFs on one of Boldin's blocks. It came on a Kaepernick scramble at 3:51 in the second quarter.

In the first GIF we can see Boldin running his route and on his peak back knowing he needed to get back on the block. It was perfectly timed and allowed for an extra four or five yards on the run.
This is one reason I am particularly excited to see Michael Crabtree back on the field. He is a dynamic receiver, but his run blocking is as good as anybody out there. It will be quite the sight to see when Crabtree and Boldin are on the field together. Late November can't come soon enough!
