Fooch's Update No. 3: Schefter blowing some smoke on stuff we already knew:
In last hour before trade deadline, Niners are team to watch. They've been working phones on back part of their roster.

Fooch's Update No. 2: And this is why trade deadlines are funny/lame:
Contrary to what is out there Seattle is NOT one of the teams in it for Jared Allen. Two others but Seattle is not talking to Vikes for him

Fooch's Update: In case anybody was wondering:
NFL source: 49ers have "no interest" in a Jared Allen trade.
— Tim Kawakami (@timkawakami) October 29, 2013
The NFL trade deadline is quickly approaching this afternoon, and the close of trading season means one last rush of rumors. Josh Gordon was one of the more prominent names mentioned recently, but as we approach the deadline, Jared Allen trade rumors have quickly taken over:
Seattle making 11th-hour push to trade for Vikings Pro-Bowl DE Jared Allen, per multiple sources. Vikings also talking to second team.

It is worth noting that Jared Allen's base salary this season is $14,280,612. If anybody is going to acquire Allen, they're likely going to need to clear some serious cap space. The Seahawks currently have a little over $2 million in space. Over The Cap has a look at the Seahawks current cap situation. It seems like they would have to unload a player or two to make this kind of deal happen.
There is something to be said for making a move like this when it might put them over the top. Tim Kawakami mentioned the 49ers move for Fred Dean back in the day as potential inspiration for renting Allen. I do think the 49ers would at least consider the notion of Jared Allen, just like they would consider any possible addition. However, the future cap obligations they face mean re-doing some of their current contracts is not the wisest of moves.
The goal is to win the Super Bowl, but do you really sacrifice as much as it might cost when you already have the talent to potentially make a Super Bowl run? And the 49ers are getting their own reinforcements in the coming weeks. They've added Quinton Dial as a depth option. They'll likely be activating Mario Manningham, Eric Wright and Tank Carradine in the coming weeks. They will be improving their roster without even needing to deal away picks and cap space to make it happen. I can live with that.
