49ers waive WR Marlon Moore

The 49ers made a roster move, waiving wide receiver Marlon Moore. We break down the implications.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have waived wide receiver Marlon Moore. The move is not a surprise given Moore's lack of production and the team's need to start clearing roster spaces.

Moore appeared in six games this season, and had one reception for six yards, and one rush for nine yards. During training camp, he became the de facto number two wide receiver fairly quickly. He obviously showed the coaches something, but it was kind of an odd situation overall.

The logical next move would be the activation of Mario Manningham, but with Eric Wright due back from the NFI list, they could make another release before activating both Manningham and Wright. The timing is not particularly significant at this point. I'm not sure why the team decided to activate Tank Carradine yesterday ahead of the others, but I'm not overly concerned with their being some kind of hidden meaning.

The 49ers have an opportunity practice today, and then I believe the players will get some time off between now and the beginning of next week. Jim Harbaugh said the coaching staff would be working on preparing for Carolina, and might get some time off if they get ahead on that.
