The San Francisco 49ers have activated outside linebacker Aldon Smith. The 49ers made the corresponding roster move on Wednesday when they released wide receiver Marlon Moore.

The move was expected at some point, but we never really had a specific timeline in place for it. We heard yesterday that Smith turned himself in on the three gun charges, which seemed to indicate he was out of his in-patient rehab process. Jim Harbaugh mentioned yesterday that he had met with Smith on Wednesday. Harbaugh would not comment on a specific timeline, which has been the case through the whole process.

Aldon Smith will deal with his legal issues in the coming weeks, and any NFL discipline after that, but for now, the question will be how he looks in his first game action in over a month. He was placed on the NFI list after Week 3. The 49ers have been able to get a look at Corey Lemonier in the meantime, so the other question is how they will rotate Lemonier into the mix next week against the Carolina Panthers.

This certainly is an interesting development.
