Who will the 49ers clear out when PUP/NFI players are available?

Starting next week, players on the 49ers PUP list and NFI list will be allowed to start practicing with the team. The 49ers have up to five weeks to get them into practice. The day the players start practicing, the team has three weeks add the players back to the 53-man roster. They don't have to move them all along on the same timeline, and the player does not count toward the 53-man roster when they start practicing.

That being said, the 49ers will find themselves in a position where they need to figure out who to release from their current roster. They have some time to make those decisions, but they are looking at upwards of five players to release in the coming month. The players likely joining the roster would include Mario Manningham, Eric Wright, Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial. Aldon Smith could come back at some point during that stretch as well, although we do not know for certain.

While we wait and wonder, the question becomes who to cut. You can take a look at our sortable roster page, or last week's depth chart to figure out who could get cut. If the four PUP/NFI players come back sooner rather than later, the numbers game becomes interesting.

I suspect Marlon Moore is on the chopping block, as well as Nate Stupar, Jermaine Cunningham, and maybe even Nnamdi Asomugha. If you're the 49ers and Tramaine Brock is looking sharp, does Nnamdi have any remaining value? He does not usually play the slot, so Perrish Cox would likely remain Carlos Rogers' backup. Nnamdi doesn't play special teams, so that removes further value. I'd personally rather keep Darryl Morris, and just replace Nnamdi with Eric Wright.

Given that Tank and Dial both play on the defensive line, does Demarcus Dobbs or Tony Jerod-Eddie get the axe? The team got both of them in Sunday evening, although Jerod-Eddie got in first as Ray McDonald's replacement. Is Dobbs potentially on the chopping block, or would the team keep four defensive line reserves?
