49ers depth chart shows no backups for LaMichael James, Anthony Dixon at PR, KR

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up another set of roster moves on Tuesday, waiving cornerback Perrish Cox and wide receiver Kyle Williams. The 49ers needed roster space for linebacker Nick Moody, and could need a spot for a tight end or safety depending on the status of Garrett Celek, Vernon Davis and Eric Reid.

The departure of Cox and Williams removes two players with experience in returning kicks and punts. The 49ers PR department released the latest depth chart, and as it currently stands, they have LaMichael James listed as the punt returner, Anthony Dixon as the kick returner, and no backup for either. Well, then.

Some would say these two waiver moves provide some insight into the team's confidence in James and Dixon. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. It will hopefully provide some useful confidence to both James and Dixon, but it's certainly going to be interesting.

The team likely has backup options on the roster, but in reality, James and Dixon are operating without a safety net to some extent. Eric Branch tweeted that Eric Wright has been getting some work fielding punts at practice. For now though, James and Wright appear to be the guys.
