San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis met with the media Tuesday afternoon and provided an update on his current status. Davis suffered a concussion in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers. In speaking with the media, Davis indicated he was doing fine 48 hours after the concussion. He said he spent Tuesday working on an exercise bike, getting a lift in and attending team meetings.

This is the second concussion Davis has suffered in the last year. He suffered a concussion against the Seahawks in Week 16, following a big hit. In his discussion today, Davis said this concussion was not as bad as that one. With this concussion he suffered no memory loss and he felt his balance was OK. He described it as mild. A concussion is a concussion, but really mild vs. major comes down to the symptoms. It is a brain injury no matter the symptoms.

The concussion protocol requires a player be asymptomatic at rest and then after a workout. A player will be cleared if he is able to pass a contact test. As we recall from Alex Smith's concussion, that involves generally light contact.
